Drone pilot career: the profession of the future

Demand is rising for specialists who can fly drones in sectors such as film production, construction, agriculture and surveying. That is the view of drone pilot instructor Milan Lončar, owner of Lomingo International. The company operates in more than 20 countries, from Europe to Africa and the Americas. Interest in drones, and in a drone pilot career, has tripled since the start of the year.

What is behind that growth, wars or cheaper drones?

“Let us start with agriculture. When crops are sprayed after rain, heavy tractors and sprayers trample them and compact the soil. Drones do not trample the crops, so you avoid losses of two to three per cent. It is also much faster. A drone covers two hectares in six minutes, while a tractor needs 45 minutes for one hectare,” says Lončar.

He adds that Serbia has clear rules for the use of drones. What is not yet standard is how the regulations are applied in plant protection. Earlier regulations recognised only aeroplanes and helicopters as aircraft, so the use of many products was limited. Now agrochemical and equipment manufacturers and the plant protection authorities need to set standards for unmanned aircraft.
